Annex Theatre Company is proud to bring the classic musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., to the Egyptian Theatre in downtown DeKalb this Friday and Saturday, January 7th and 8th, 2011.
Based on the 1967 film of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of a small- town girl, Millie Dillmount, who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love, a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by an ex-con frustrated old actress who is up to no good.
The show opened on Broadway in April 2002 and won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
“The stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited musical romp brimming with favorite songs and bright dance numbers,” says director Dan Coran. “It’s just what audiences will need to perk them up from the post-holiday doldrums.”
The cast includes Kiah Fischer (Millie Dillmount), Kaytie Rivkin (Dorothy Brown), Brooks Coran (Jimmy Smith), Alex Riley (Trevor Graydon), Alyssa Torres (Mrs. Meers), Madison Bound (Ching Ho), Matthew Johnson (Bun Foo), Anna Butler (Ruth), Erin Laino (Alice), Cadmium Bound (Ethel Peas), Jyllan Torres (Gloria), and Kara Strohm, Izzy Hepker, Grace Jencks, Eliza Coran, and Kacy Brzezinski as the Priscilla girls.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30pm Friday and Saturday, January 7th and 8th at the Egyptian Theatre. Tickets are $8 for children and students, $12 for adults, available at the door or on the Egyptian Theatre website. For more information call 815-991-5608.
