Saturday, October 27 is the big day for Halloween celebrations, but many other fun events are scheduled between Saturday and Halloween as well.

Plan on attending a not-so-scary Halloween story and craft time at Flewellin Memorial Library on Saturday morning.
Howl-O-Ween – Katz Dog Park, DeKalb, IL
October 27, 2018, 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Bring your costumed dog to the dog park on Saturday to compete in our costume contest! No registration required. Awards will be given for the following categories: Most “Spook-tacular,” “Howling” with laughter, Best Owner/Pet Costume Combo
Judging begins at 11:00 a.m. and winners will be announced at 11:15 a.m.
Oktoberfest / BrewHaHa – Edgebrook Golf Course, Sandwich, IL
October 27, 2018, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Home Brew Competition, Bring your best Jack-O-Lantern competition, Brat eating contest & Costume Contest! Prizes for all winners! Cash Prize for the Home Brewer who wins! Raising funds for Sandwich School Music Boosters.
Hometown Halloween – Downtown Hinckley, IL
October 27, 2018, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Trick-or-treat in downtown Hinckley, sponsored by the Hinckley Business Association. Wear your costume and visit local businesses along Rt. 30 for treats. Start at the Hinckley Business Association booth on the library lawn for a punch card to enter for prizes.
Halloween Story Time with Mrs. Holtapp – Kirkland Public Library
October 27, 2018, 11:00 a.m.
Join us at the Kirkland Public Library on Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. to hear Mrs. Holtapp read some of her favorite Halloween stories. Wear your costume for even more fun!
Halloween Walk – Downtown Sandwich, IL
October 27, 2018, 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Kids and adults of all ages are invited to join the Sandwich Area Chamber of Commerce and the merchants of downtown Sandwich for our 8th Annual Halloween Walk. Begin your journey at the Gazebo in Veterans Park ( 151 E Railroad St, Sandwich ). The Chamber will be handing out treat bags and the shops of downtown will be open and handing out treats. Participating shops will have an ORANGE sign on their door.
Library Spooktacular – Sandwich Library
October 27, 2018, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Celebrate the spooky season with the whole family at the library! Enjoy spooky pictures at a selfie station, a creepy craft, pumpkin painting, and more! We will have 20 pumpkins available on a first come, first served basis. Feel free to bring your own pumpkin. Costumes are encouraged! All ages welcome. Registration required.
Hy-Vee Kids Halloween Party – Hy-Vee, Sycamore, IL

Join your Sycamore Hy-Vee team for our Halloween Party! Coloring Activity, Cookie Decorating, Mini Pumpkin Decorating. Free bag for first 100 kids trick-or-treating.
Halloween Happenings – Chamberlain Park, Genoa, IL
October 27, 2018, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Enjoy this free family event featuring games, wagon rides, food and much more. A costume contest will be held and awards will be given. Age groups for contest are: under 24 months, ages 2-4, ages 5 -7, ages 8-10 and age 11 and up. Join us for fun and prizes.
Spooktacular Golf Cart and UTV Parade – Civic Center, Maple Park, IL
October 27, 2018, 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Bring your golf cart/UTV and yourself in your spookiest attire and parade through Maple Park! There is no fee to participate; however, all participants must have a village permit sticker to register. Registration is at the Civic Center at 2:00 p.m. (prior to the parade). In the spirit of Halloween, participants are highly encouraged to pass out candy. 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prices will be awarded for most/scariest.
Enchanted Forest – Muingan Park, Waterman, IL

Candy give away & costume contest. We are trying something new this year which will be a scarecrow contest. Entry fee for the scarecrow contest is $5.00 per family to make & bring their own handmade scarecrow for display. We will have 1st & 2nd place winners.

57th Annual Pumpkin Festival Parade – Sycamore, IL

Monday, October 29th
Spooky Stories – Hinckley Public Library
October 29, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Listen to spooky tales told by professional storyteller A. Denise Farrugia and campfire songs by Cowboy Dave.
6:00-6:30 p.m. Squirms and Giggles. Stories for grades K-2 that aren’t too scary.
6:30-7:00 p.m. Campfire songs.
7:00-7:30 p.m. Spooky Stories for grades 3-8.
Adults are welcome at all sessions. The library will be open the whole time so siblings can play during the opposite session. Registration is required.
Scary Stories in the Cemetery – Elmwood Cemetery; Sycamore, IL
October 29, 2018, 6:00 p.m.
Meet us at the Elmwood Cemetery for a night of storytelling that will scare your socks off! Professional storyteller, Bruce Wallace, as well as library staff will be presenting. Adults welcome, ages 10+. No signup required.
Annual Children’s Halloween Party – Genoa Veterans Home; Genoa, IL
October 29, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Hot dogs, chips, juice and desserts will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Judging will start promptly at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 30th
Halloween Toddler Parades – DeKalb Public Library
October 30 & October 31, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Young children are invited to join our annual Halloween Parade through the Children’s Department, which includes a few stops at various points to “trick-or-treat.” Come in costume and join in the fun! No registration is required to attend this FREE event!
Kish Symphony Orchestra Halloween Concerts – Music Building, NIU
October 30, 2018, 5:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., trick-or-treating 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Two free Halloween-themed concerts on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The 5:30 concert will be more oriented to young children. There will be trick-or-treating in the NIU Music Building a half hour before the 5:30 concert.
Wednesday, October 31st
Lions Club Halloween Party – Indian Creek Middle School; Waterman, IL
October 31, 2018, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Annual Lions Club Halloween Party at Indian Creek Middle School for all Indian Creek Elementary Students & Pre-schoolers. Games, Treats & Pinatas!
UCC/UNC Trick or Trunk & Haunted House – Shabbona, IL
October 31, 2018, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
UNC is located next to Shabbona Fire Department on Navaho Street. Haunted House will be in church across the street.

There is so much to do this weekend ,,, from The BIG Pumpkin Fest in Sycamore, to the Tribute to Frankie Valli at the Egyptian Theatre to the Elk’s Club trip to Top Gold to the Hay Ride at the Kishwaukee Country Club … go out and scare up some FUN
