Resource Bank is pleased to congratulate the recipients of the Centennial Service Award. Each of the top ten students, chosen from among 83 applicants, will receive $1,000 towards their continued education. Honored this year are:
Justin Clausen, Sycamore High School, prepared and served food for Feed ‘Em Soup and the 4-H Adopt a Family program, and he dedicated himself to the residents at Oak Crest nursing home. Justin will begin his studies at Kishwaukee College to pursue Engineering. Trent Englum, Sycamore High School, delivered food for Meals on Wheels and prepared food for residence of Hope Haven. Trent will attend the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Nolan Hickey, Indian Creek High School, coordinated a food drive at Indian Creek to help needy families in his community. Nolan will attend Iowa State University. Travis Hughes, Genoa-Kingston High School, served as a Cadet in the Genoa-Kingston Fire Rescue Department. Travis will attend Joliet Junior College. Drew Paszotta, DeKalb High School, dedicated his time to Habitat for Humanity building homes for people in the community. He will attend the University of Minnesota to study Pharmacology. Brian Pfau, Somonauk High School, a dedicated Eagle Scout, served his community through beautification projects at the local forest preserve and the Somonauk Police Station. Brian will attend Monmouth College. Andrea Strohmaier, Genoa-Kingston High School, served the youth at Walcamp Outdoor Christian Ministry and teaching Sunday school and catechism education at her church. Andrea will attend Ashford University in Iowa. Katelyn Thurlby, Genoa-Kingston High School, volunteered with the DeKalb County Partnership for a Safe, Active Family Environment, and Pay-It-Forward House. Katelyn will begin studies in Music Education at Augustana College. Jake Winters, Sycamore High School, organized the restoration effort of the Old North Grove School. Jake will attend the University of Missouri. Ashley Yunek, Sycamore High School, was a mentor through the Family Service Agency’s Big brother/Big Sister Program. Ashley will attend the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. Now in its twelfth year, the Resource Bank, N.A. Centennial Service Award is presented to area high school graduates who demonstrate a commitment to their communities through participation in volunteer and civic activities during high school.
