Photo – The DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission has worked hard to bring The Moving Wall™ back to Sycamore and the Park District is honored to once again be the venue for this moving and poignant memorial. From July 13-17, 2017, the traveling Vietnam veterans’ memorial will be on display 24 hours a day in the Sycamore Sports Complex. The DeKalb County Chapter of VietNow brought us the Moving Wall™ for the first time in 1997 and again in 2007. The accessible path around the pond near the Good Tymes Shelter was built to accommodate the large volume of visitors and create a transition from the park atmosphere to a quiet place of remembrance, solace and awareness. More information and donations opportunities can be found here: dekalbcountywall.com Thank you to all DeKalb County veterans for sharing this experience with us and for your service.

Photo – PARDON OUR DUST: This week, new paths are being installed at Dr. John Ovitz Park and Chief Black Partridge Nature Preserve (where they will lead to an accessible platform and bench adjacent to the pond). The District is continually making small improvements such as these to comply with the American with Disabilities Act and, when possible, go above and beyond to achieve accessibility benchmarks in the parks and recreation field.

Photo – Heartland Bank is the latest business to join the Park District in an effort to “leaf” a legacy of outstanding recreational opportunities in Sycamore. The bank’s donation clearly represents its commitment to not just the future of Sycamore, but also its commitment to the families of Heartland Bank employees for a healthy, vibrant future in our community. The Park District is incredibly thankful for this gift and to be involved in a community where local businesses such as Heartland Bank value and invest in community wellness. We’re proud to have them join the legacy! To donate online or learn more about Leaf a Legacy and the projects it helps fund, visit sycamoreparkdistrict.com/leafalegacy
