Sycamore Speedway hosted several special events this last weekend with their “Back to School” Special PLUS Corn Boil. The “Back to School” special was a hit, all children ages 13 and Under were Free and received a Sycamore Speedway Pencil when they arrived at the speedway. Over 400 children were in attendance on Friday night and over 300 came on Saturday night. Friday was another night for the Compact racing. They featured a Demolition Derby PLUS a Figure 8. Saturday’s racing featured Super Late Models, Late Models, Spectator, Compact & Powder Puff Plus the Badger Micro Sprints. The sprints started 14 in their feature and left our flagman shaking in his boots during their feature. They added a lot of excitement to this weekend’s racing. This was their last appearance at Sycamore Speedway for 2013 but management has locked them in for the 2014’s schedule. Sycamore Speedway also hosted the first ever “Race A Driver” Corn Eating Contest. One driver from each class volunteered to race against 5 children randomly picked from the audience. Not only did the children contestants race the driver they were partnered with but they also were timed to see who could eat the fastest. All 5 fan participants received a plaque and Speedway bucks to use at the souvenir stand. The event put fans on their feet and brought lots of laughs to all. A special thanks to Kuiper’s Farm for donating the corn for the contest and supplying the Corn Boil. The speedway has stated that there will be lots more special events like these for 2014 and maybe a few more yet for 2013 so become a fan on facebook and enter their mailing list at www.sycamorespeedway.com.
For this coming weekend Sycamore Speedway is hosting their last Friday and Saturday Race Weekend of 2013. They still have the month of September filled with racing but it will only happen on Saturday nights. In light of Labor Day, all military personnel, with proper identification, will get into the Speedway free of charge. On Saturday, August 31st, it is the Old Milwaukee Classic, with special sponsorships from Old Milwaukee.
