If the landscape along Rte. 64 at the Golf Couse seems like something’s missing, don’t worry, you’re not going crazy…this giant cottonwood was removed today! This tree is 80-90 years old. Half of it has died and is now hollow and it has been losing large limbs. As part of the Park District’s tree removal plan, it was taken down safely – falling WHERE and WHEN the experts wanted it to.
NEXT YEAR the Sycamore Park District will begin its Tree Replacement Program. It is a three year plan to slowly replace the trees we have lost in recent years–mainly Ash Trees. The plan is to restore with a diversity of tree species to avoid or minimize future die-offs like those created by the Emerald Ash Borer.
