Celebrating “National Trails Day” on Saturday June 6, 2015 the Sycamore Park District and the Sycamore School District will unveil the details of a joint trail project which will accomplish a variety of actions for various agencies:
- Safe Routes to School for the School District.
- Action 2020 Critical Success Factor for the Park District’s Long-Range Plan—connecting Sycamore from east to west.
- Addressing one of the routes identified in the DeKalb County Greenways and Trails Plan. Most importantly, this cooperative venture is a strong example of inter-governmental cooperation.
“The Sycamore Park District is committed to working with other units of local government and other organizations to provided services and facilities at the lowest possible cost, and this venture with the Sycamore School District is a great example”, said Ted Strack, Board President for the Sycamore Park District.
At the 11:00am, Saturday June 6th “unveiling”, the Park Board and School Board will share details of this joint venture and unveil a sign marking the beginning of this effort to bring more safe paths for school students and park district residents. Getting safely to school, riding bikes across town, exercising, skateboarding, rollerblading, or just taking a stroll will be the significant outcome of this joint venture.
“Sycamore School District believes that community partnerships are essential. The trails project in conjunction with the Sycamore Park District not only addresses this belief, but provides opportunities for the entire community. We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative”, said Kathy Countryman, Superintendent of Schools in Sycamore.
