Sycamore Kiwanis’ first annual Craft Beer and Brat Fest proved to be a great success in more ways than one! On July 1, over 600 people came out to this unique fundraiser that featured Hy-Vee brats, craft beer tasting, children’s activities and live music. Over the next five years, proceeds from the annual event will be donated to the Sycamore Park District’s Leaf a Legacy campaign to fulfill the club’s $35,000 pledge. Representatives from the event committee met with Park District staff and Board members to present the first installment of their pledge. With a net profit of $12,000 from the inaugural event, the group may reach their giving goal sooner than planned!
With the $35,000 pledge, the Kiwanis Club will be named as a sponsor of the Sycamore Park District’s new splashpad. Promoting water safety and comfortability in Sycamore’s youth is an important initiative to the Club. In addition to their support of the Splahpad, the Sycamore Kiwanis has, for many years, helped offset the participant fees for toddler swim lessons at the Park District.
The splashpad is part of the Sycamore Park District’s ACTION 2020 Plan which will bring Sycamore a new community center, the Brian Bemis Family Dog Park, Northwestern Medicine Sled Hill, two trail connections, Sports Complex expansion and a new irrigation system for the golf course. Leaf a Legacy, the $1 million fundraising campaign that helps support these oncoming facilities is $35,000 away from reaching its goal.
