Bring your kids to the 2013 Sycamore Kids Work Day this Saturday, October 5th, 2013. All school-age children are invited and will meet in the city parking lot at Elm and Somonauk, then split into groups headed by adults to pick up trash along the streets in preparation for the Annual Sycamore Pumpkin Festival. This is a great way to involve your children in their community in a positive way.
The 2013 52nd Annual Pumpkin Festival will be held October 23rd through the 27th. What started out as an idea by Wally Thurow in 1956 to offer something creative for the students of Sycamore, has grown from a neighborhood display on his front yard into the towns biggest city wide event beginning on Wednesday with the opening ceremony and cake cutting. The festival begins with over 1000 entries in the Lions Decorated Pumpkin Display, 2 carnivals, 2 large indoor craft shows, many non-profit vendors, and culminating with an hour and a half long parade on Sunday.
The clean up event will go on from 9am to 12pm this Saturday. Workers get a t-shirt and kids meal coupon for a local eatery. The city provides water. Adults to walk with the groups are also needed.
