This Thursday, January 6th, the Sycamore History Museum is holding it’s Brown Bag Lunch with a presentation on “Fires”. Jim Lyon will share his research on fires in downtown Sycamore, including the devastating fire that destroyed the Aida Young Temple and Ace Hardware.
Coffee and cookies will be provided. The presentation is free, but donations to the Museum are welcome. The Brown Bag Lunch begins at 12pm and will be held at the Federated Church, 612 W. State Street in Sycamore.
The Sycamore History Museum’s current Exhibit is “Heartbeat of a Community: Downtown Sycamore” Downtown Sycamore is the center of the community. Although no longer home to grocery stores and hardware stores, the downtown is still host to a combination of services, stores, and entertainment venues that attract people. Sycamore may have grown considerably over the years, but it is still, in essence, a small town that is committed to preserving and promoting that small-town lifestyle.
This exhibit explores why and how the downtown community has continually attracted new businesses and managed to thrive, in contrast to the small-town business district decline seen throughout the nation. The Sycamore History Museum is located at 1730 N. Main Street in Sycamore. Visit their website for more information.
