Sukhava Bodhe Yoga & Music Festival (pronounced “soo-khaah-vuh boh-dhay”), sanskrit for “joyful awakening,” brings a laid-back Midwest vibe to the festival scene with an all-ages celebration of yoga, music, conscious living, and community. The inaugural event takes place this coming Friday-Monday, August 30-September 2, 2013 in the stunning natural surroundings of Stonehouse Farm Eco-Retreat & Sanctuary in DeKalb County, Illinois.
Internationally recognized teachers, musicians and artists headline the event, which is expected to attract hundreds of yoga practitioners, nature-lovers and music enthusiasts. The festival’s location 70 miles west of Chicago makes it easily accessible to attendees from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and across the country.
Participants can stretch, strengthen and relax at yoga classes taught by renowned instructors Daren Friesen, Kim Wilcox, Wade Gotwals, Mia Park and many more. Performances by Dave Stringer, Matt Ulery, the Householders, and other folk, world, and funk musicians and DJs provide the soundtrack for the weekend. Paddle board yoga, essential oil workshops, a cast of talented healers, bee-keeping classes, and fire performances round out the weekend’s diverse offerings.
Stonehouse Farm Eco-Retreat & Sanctuary in Paw Paw, Illinois, is home to lush forests, grassy meadows, and a pristine lake surrounding a historic stone house built in 1863. Walking paths meander throughout the property, offering spectacular views of the native landscape. The swimming lake is framed by a sand beach, providing space for swimming and water sports.
Festival-goers will set up camp overnight or drive in for the day. Teachers and workshops are added regularly to the festival’s website, so check back often for the most current lineup. Vendor booth spaces are available, along with sponsorship opportunities for wellness-oriented businesses and individuals looking to get involved.
