On October 3rdat approximately 5:00am, the DeKalb Police Department responded to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in regard to an individual who was shot in the hand. The victim, Jorge Barrios, reported as he was walking near his home, a vehicle pulled up next to him, and an occupant inside discharged a firearm striking him in the hand. The vehicle fled and was not located. Evidence obtained by investigators suggests this incident occurred differently than described by the victim.
Barrios was out on bond and on electronic home monitoring when the shooting took place. The Dekalb County Sheriffs Office conducted an electronic home monitoring compliance check at Barrios’ residence. During the compliance check, a spent shell casing was found in Barrios’ bedroom. A search warrant was subsequently obtained to search Barrios’ residence.
A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a loaded handgun, ammunition, cocaine, and United States Currency; all which were found in Barrios’ bedroom. The investigation has shown that Barrios accidentally shot himself while in his bedroom.
On October 4th, 2019, Jorge Barrios was arrested at this residence and brought to the DeKalb County Jail.

Jorge Barrios, 23 years of age, 2200 block of Eves Circle East, DeKalb, was charged with:
Armed Violence (2 counts), Class X Felonies
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by A Felon, Class 2 Felony
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, Class 1 Felony
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class 4 Felony
Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Class 4 Felony
Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, Class B Misdemeanor
