Football fanatics in DeKalb will get their fix this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 29-30) at Huskies Stadium. The IHSA State Championships have come to DeKalb. The very best football teams in Illinois will battle for coveted trophy and title of 2013 State Champions.
The Battle of Cinderellas takes place in 2A action when 5th-ranked Sterling (Newman Central Catholic) battles 8th-ranked Staunton at 1:00pm Friday (11-29).
Staunton fans will make the longest trek to DeKalb — a round trip total of 586 miles. Batavia fans will travel the least. A short 31 miles away.
If there is a David vs. Goliath story it would be in 8A and by rankings only. Naperville Central ranked 7th battled their way through their bracket to face number one ranked Wilmette (Loyola Academy).
The only contest between two number one ranked teams is between Lombard (Montini) and Springfield (Sacred Heart-Griffin).
DeKalb County teams that made the IHSA playoffs lost only to the best. Genoa lost to Geneseo in the first round in 4A. DeKalb lost to Batavia in the first round of 6A. Sycamore lost in the 5A quarter finals to Montini.
Games begin at 10am on Friday with 1A championships and end after the conclusion of the Saturday 7pm 8A championships. Choose your contests and get your tickets here.
Volunteers are still needed. Contact Debbie Armstrong at the DeKalb Area CVB.
