Spring Weather Wreaking Havoc on DeKalb County

After a winter that included lots of early snow and near-record cold, Spring 2019 is not turning out to be much kinder to DeKalb County residents.

In spite of the prediction of an early Spring by Punxsutawney Phil, DeKalb County was hit by up to 8-inches of snow on April 14. But mother nature was not done, yet, as another snow storm dropped over two inches on Saturday, April 27, causing the opening of the Sycamore Speedway to be postponed and putting a damper on other weekend activities.

To make matters worse, the latest snow storm was followed immediately by several days of rain, leading to serious flooding. In fact, there is a flash flood watch in effect for DeKalb County until Wednesday morning, with more rain expected throughout the week.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Illinois and Indiana, 
  including the following areas, in Illinois, Cook, DeKalb, 
  dupage, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La 
  Salle, Lee, Livingston, and will. In Indiana, Benton, Jasper, 
  Lake in, Newton, and Porter. 

* Through Wednesday morning

* an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain are possible on top of already
  saturated soils.

* Localized flash flooding, poor drainage and lowland flooding
  will be possible, along with rises on rivers, streams, creeks,
  and retention ponds.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... 

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
