Special Recognition for Shabbona Lake State Park

State Senator Christine Johnson, State Representative Robert Pritchard, Shabbona Lake State Park Staff and special guest Marc Miller, Director Illinois Department Of Natural Resources cordially invite you to attend a Ceremony to present a Resolution recognizing the Impact of Shabbona Lake State Park on Northern Illinois Tourism and to commemorate the Milestone of the Park’s twelve millionth visitor.

Please join them on December 12, 2011 at 10:50 AM, at the Indian Creek High School auditorium, at 506 S. Shabbona Rd., in Shabbona Illinois. Reception to follow at Pokanoka’s Cafe, located in Shabbona Lake State Park.

This Fall, Shabbona Lake State Park passed the 12 millionth visitor mark. It is hard to believe that the Park has been around for over 35 years. The State Park has been a steady asset to Southern DeKalb County in these trying economic times, second only to Northern Illinois University as a tourism attraction. Park attendance annually is now 425,000 visitors a year, generating millions of tourism dollars each year.

Illinois State Senator Christine Johnson and Illinois State Representative Robert Pritchard are hosting a Recognition Ceremony on December 12th, at the Indian Creek High School to honor the Park achievements. Included in the Park’s lore is 4 State Of Illinois Record Muskie and 2 State Of Illinois Record Crappie, as well as the 12 million visitors and associated tourism dollars to the community and the State Of Illinois,

Also included in those achievements is that Shabbona Lake is recognized statewide as the “Muskie Capitol of Illinois”.

Shabbona Lake State Park is the crowning jewel of the IDNR fisheries and is also known as “Illinois’ Best Fishing Lake.” Shabbona Lake is the one and only lake in Illinois built just for fishing. Volunteerism at Shabbona Lake State Park has always been the cornerstone that allows this Park to exceed.

We are so lucky to have such an outstanding state facility in our community. We constantly hear about how well maintained and beautiful the Park is, and that is directly linked to the current and former staff we have had at the Park.
