Springfield, IL… State Representative Joe Sosnowski (R-Belvidere/Rockford) advanced House Bill 2984 through the Illinois House of Representatives today. The legislation aims to create the Tuition Voucher Program Task Force to study the benefits of vouchers in the Illinois educational system and how a voucher system could be implemented.
“In an effort to help Illinois families and children look for unique educational opportunities, especially in low income communities or in areas with poorly performing schools, this bill would open the discussion of the integration of vouchers into Illinois’ educational system,” stated Sosnowski. “We need to offer enhanced educational opportunities,”
The bipartisan task force will be made up of thirteen members; five to be members of the general public appointed by the governor and four Republicans and four Democrats split evenly between the House and the Senate.
HB 2984 will now go before the Senate for consideration.

Instead of depriving poor districts of money with privatization, we should fund those districts better. Private firms need to show a profit where public ones don’t. This privatization of schools, military, prisons, etc. hasn’t worked well.
