For the past several years, we have started a holiday tradition with our employees to encourage them to shop at locally owned businesses in our community. We provide each employee with $100, all in $2 bills, on the condition that the money is spent at locally owned businesses (i.e. no chain stores, Wal-mart, Target, etc). We have chosen to use $2 bills as they are unique and not often used in circulation. We hope that the businesses who receive the $2 bills will, in turn, use them at other local businesses and keep the local economy going! Studies have shown that locally owned businesses keep, on average, up to 3 times as much money in the local community as compared to chain or absentee-owned businesses and we want to support our community!
This year, we are inviting the community to join our employees for a Shop Local Holiday Cash Mob! Come to downtown DeKalb (we will do downtown Sycamore next year!) at 1pm, on Sunday, December 15th and we will start you off with a $2 bill, on us, to get you shopping locally! We will meet in the parking lot across from the Egyptian Theater at 1pm and will go from there to various local businesses to shop – the Confectionary, Sports of All Sorts, Moxie’s, Cracker Jax, etc. along with grabbing a bite to eat at local restaurants!
We hope to see you there to support our local businesses!!!
