The Shabbona Fireworks are an established tradition in many of the families of DeKalb County. Folks come from far and near to sit on the shores of Lake Shabbona to watch a 30 minutes dazzling display over the lake. The 2014 fireworks display will take place on Friday evening, July 4th, 2014 and will begin at dusk (around 9:15pm) at the Shabbona Lake State Park.
The party goes both Friday and Saturday in Shabbona with the Shabbona Independence Day Hometown Festival. The day starts out Friday with the Fire Department’s All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast from 7am – 11am. A wonderful hometown parade kicks off at noon in downtown Shabbona. The parade captures the essence of both America’s freedom and small town rural living with proud participation from local military heroes, American Legion, fire departments, farmers, and local clubs and businesses. Everyone is invited to attend and participate in this patriotic tradition!
From 11-5 there will be vendors, crafts and food booths open, as well as rides, games, inflatables and fun for all ages. Browse the tents and booths of local merchants for many types of arts and crafts. Carnival rides, moon walks, inflatable slides, magic shows, music and games of all sorts are sure to delight kids of all ages. From 4:30-7pm the Lions Club will be serving a pork chop dinner. Friday evening’s fireworks are paid for, organized and sponsored by the Shabbona NFP Committee.
