Are you a gun enthusiast? Here is your opportunity to win some quality firearms while supporting a local fire department.
The Shabbona Fire Protection District is selling tickets for a 52-week gun raffle fundraiser. Tickets are $100 and only 1000 will be sold, so you have about 5% chance of winning for every ticket purchased. There is no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased per person and each ticket is eligible for every week’s drawing.
Drawings will begin every Wednesday for 52 weeks, once all 1000 tickets have been sold. They have currently sold about half of the available tickets.
Guns are all from quality manufacturers such as Beretta, Browning, Henry Rifles, Howa, Mossberg, Remington, Ruger, S&W, Springfield, Winchester and more. See complete list below.
Winning numbers will correspond to the Illinois Lottery Wednesday Mid-Day Pick Three Lotto. Winning numbers will be posted on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/shabbona52gunraffle) and winners will have 30 days to claim their gun.
For tickets, you can see any Shabbona fireman, call (815) 901-1193, (630) 742-4213, or contact them through their Facebook page at:
https://www.facebook.com/shabbona52gunraffle.
They are also now able to take payments by credit card and Facebook pay.
All state and local laws apply.
Guns provided by Carter’s Gun Shop in Shabbona, IL.

I wonder what the liability of the fire department is for this? Do they have to take out insurance? Register as a firearms dealer? Do they have to wait three days before giving the guns to the winners? Make sure they have FOID cards?

Dawn Marie the firearms are sold by a dealer and all legal steps are taken. The department is selling a ticket, not a firearm. 100% legal.

Cliff Speare Jr. But isnât the fire department paying for the guns? I highly doubt the gun shop donated 52 guns

Dawn Marie I wonder what the police department thinks about this

Michelle Larson Espy no they are selling the tickets not the actual firearm. The firearms are purchased using the money from the ticket sales to FOID card holders. If you donât have a FOID you canât have the gun.
What is so hard for people to understand they are selling a ticket, not the firearm itself lol.

So if I sell raffle tickets for a kilo of cocaine, I can’t get busted for selling drugs. Got it. What’s so hard to understand?

But cocaine is illegal, firearms on this particular list are not. Apples to grapes.

Cliff Speare Jr. whether the product at issue is legal or illegal, your analogy was that only a TICKET is being sold because itâs a raffle. I just used that same analogy and applied it to a different product. Mainly to show that the ticket sellers have some ownership of what is being raffled.

Dawn Marie again, the ticket and items are not illegal. If it was the state and ISP wouldnât allow it to happen.

Cliff Speare Jr. I never said it was. Sheesh. I said I wondered if they were taking on any liability or if they had to check for FOID cards and stuff. Your response was obviously not because theyâre only selling tickets not guns. And I said that by that logic drug dealers could hold raffles and legally sell tickets without liability because theyâre just selling pieces of paper, not drugs.

Why?

fundraiser

Thanks for the question. Sorry about not responding sooner. They are raising money for the Fire Protection District.
It’s sort of a different fundraiser, but it’s probably more common than you might think

Yeah isn’t there something better to raffle off? Like a hyvee card, or a car, or literally anything else?

Brad Earnest …. no… there absolutely isnt

Who would want a car when thereâs firearms to be had?

Dont want a gun? Dont buy a raffle ticket and just donate cash!!! Easy peasy!!
