Ride Like An Egyptian

The Egyptian Theatre’s fifth annual “Ride Like an Egyptian” bicycle recreational ride will be held this Saturday, September 22 2012. Begun in 2008, the benefit ride attracts cyclists from all over the Midwest. The ride begins and ends at the Egyptian Theatre located at 135 N. 2nd St. in Downtown DeKalb. Riders have the option of riding 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles throughout east-central DeKalb County and west-central Kane County.

The ride features a well-stocked central rest stop at a great new location, St. Mary’s Novak Center in Maple Park. The Bike Haven of McHenry, IL will be providing tech support at the central rest stop. The Bike Haven will also be presenting a seminar at the central rest stop at 11am on bike safety and repair – this is a perfect opportunity for scouting troops to earn their cycling merit badge.

Routes are clearly marked and rider-friendly integrated map/cue sheets will be provided. This year’s ride again features radio-dispatched SAG support courtesy of the Kishwaukee Amateur Radio Club. North Central Cyclery of DeKalb will again provide riders with pre-ride professional tech support during registration.

An end-of-ride meal will again be provided for registered riders. Nonparticipating family and friends can purchase meal tickets for $5.00. The preregistration cost for adults 16 and over is $20 ($25 after September 8). The preregistration cost for youth under 16 is free with paid adult rider ($5 after September 8). Riders under 16 must ride with a participating parent or guardian. Riders may register online at www.egyptiantheatre.org or at the Egyptian Theatre the day of the ride from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The ride closes at 4 p.m. The ride goes on rain or shine. T-shirts featuring the ride logo are available in blue, green, or yellow for $12. Any adult rider that pre-registers will receive a free 4X4 inch square bumper sticker featuring the ride logo. Stickers will also be available for sale at the event.

The Egyptian Theatre is operated by the Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Proceeds from this benefit will be used for the ongoing operation, maintenance, and preservation of the Egyptian Theatre.
