Kishwaukee College Horticulture hosted a small group of garden-minded participants from the Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association (KSRA) on campus on September 14. Horticulture student Carol Bushong facilitated KSRA participants and their assistants in harvesting vegetables from the HOR 201 Sustainable Fruit and Vegetable Production vegetable garden on campus. HOR 201 is taught by Rich Alde and the garden the students planted is filled with fresh produce ready to harvest including tomatoes, potatoes, onions, eggplant, green peppers, corn and much more. Bushong helped the KSRA participants harvest a variety of fresh produce to share. KSRA’s mission is to promote inclusion of community members who have disabilities into local recreational programming and activities. KSRA member agencies are the DeKalb, Genoa, and Sycamore Park Districts. Pictured is KSRA program participants Trent and Heather, assisted by KSRA staff Liz Hughes (back) and Tashia Holley.
