Resource Bank, N.A. has been awarded a Citation of Merit by the Landmarks Illinois 2017 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards for the preservation and restoration of the Sycamore Townsend Garage, located at 625 N. Main Street. Each year, Landmarks Illinois honors outstanding examples of excellence in Illinois historic preservation with the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards, which aim to inspire others to take action to preserve, protect, and promote historic resources.
The Townsend Garage in Sycamore was originally part of the Frederick B. Townsend estate. The 1906 granite boulder structure now houses the Sycamore Branch of Resource Bank, a community bank with a reputation for reusing historic structures for their local branches. When looking for a location for their new branch, Resource considered not only the best location, but how they could continue to be good stewards for the community.
Original materials were restored where possible, and the addition and drive-up canopy use similar design and materials from the era. Using historic photos of the building’s time as a fuel and service station, antique restored gas pumps were replaced on the exterior to enhance the detailed frontage.

Good for them. They did a fantastic job. I’ve heard Resource does this whenever possible.
My Dad worked there back in the day
Best. Bank. Ever.
I am glad that this building was restored and is being used.
Yeah! Nicely done. The bank looks awesome.
Congratulations. And thank you for appreciating the architectural history of Sycamore. No doubt razing the building would have been less costly, however, the integrity of one of the town’s interesting historical structures was preserved. Thank you for your vision.
Congrats
Great Commitment. Congratulations
