Kishwaukee United Way’s Day of Caring committee is planning their 11th Annual Community-Wide Day of Caring scheduled for June 18, 2015. This event promotes teamwork while giving people an opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in the community. The event was moved to June several years ago to encourage more youth and family participation. The committee has done outreach in the schools and at volunteer fairs throughout the year in hopes of seeing the number of young participants
Day of Caring matches teams of volunteers from businesses, schools, faith communities, and community groups with non-profit agencies in DeKalb County who are in need of hands-on help and is the official kick-off for the Kishwaukee United Way 2014-2015 Campaign season. Members of the 2015 Day of Caring committee are: Colleen Bredeson (Voluntary Action Center), Edith Craig (DeKalb Public Library), Heather Eade (Kishwaukee Family YMCA), Dana Herra (Northern Illinois University Alumni Association), Eric Johnson (DeKalb Township), Caroline Lowery ( NB&T- Square Branch), Peggy LeMieux (ReSurface Pros), Rosa Marquez (U.S. Cellular), Destiny McDonald (NIU Student Involvement & Leadership Development Office), Mark Petrowski (Northern Illinois University), Alyson Short (American Midwest Bank), Donna Westergren (Fox Title Co.),Dawn Littlefield (United Way Director) and Jackie DiNatale (United Way Coordinator of Outreach & Finance). Edith Craig says, “ I joined the Day of Caring Committee because I feel passionate about being involved in the community in any way I can. Being on the committee allows me to help organize and plan these much-needed volunteer opportunities throughout the county. There is nothing better than helping out our local nonprofits in this way. “
“On June 18th, volunteer members of the community in DeKalb County will kick off Kishwaukee United Way Day of Caring 2015 – the 11th year of this fabulous event!” says Caroline Lowery, returning Chairperson. “ Volunteers work on projects throughout Sycamore, DeKalb and the county for not-for-profit agencies of United Way and others who need a helping hand, such as churches or home-bound individuals. Projects may include washing windows, gardening, technology assistance, painting, delivering meals on wheels and even baking for Hospice! If you have a project you are interested in staffing, contact United Way to see if we can complete it.”
