Saturday Mac Update: One week ago today I called 911 and last night I got to bring Mac home from Sherman Hospital already. They were able to fix him up with a quadruple bypass. He’s sliced up from his neck to his ankles, still very, very sore and totally exhausted. It will take a few weeks before he’s ready to do much at all. 8 full weeks till he can come back to work. Probably a year before he’s feeling ‘better than ever’.
But he’s home. He’s improving every single day and still able to make me laugh with the occasional wise crack joke. Life is Wonderful. I am so grateful to the 911 Operator, the Fire Dept. EMT’s and everyone at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Thank you from both of us for all the prayers and good thoughts from the community. Times like these do remind us of just how many wonderful friends we have.
Give me this weekend and then I’ll start back to work. 🙂
Gracie~

Mac,
I just heard about what happened. I'm sorry to hear that you were so ill but I'm happy to hear that you are back on the mend. I would hate to see one of the fine voices of dissension and investigation in DeKalb snuffed out. We have a superb fire department and they don't get enough credit for what they do. I think you are a testament to that. I bid you well and hope that you continue your efforts as you heal.
Blessings-Lisa
Mac-Glad to see you posting here. You've been missed! But I'll be happy to wait for your full recovery to enjoy your regular journalistic and investigative efforts.
It certainly will be interesting to see what God has for you now that He has extended your life. Also wonderful so many petitioned God for your life and how the fire dept./mds/nurses/etc used their skills to save and restore you. A positive testimony to the community and a great reminder that each of us has purpose and can be used by God for great good on behalf of each other.
My continuing prayer is that you are fully restored and find more comfort each day, especially that you are able to use this event to even better understand where/what God wants you to be. You are a very necessary voice in the community…I hope that continues as God permits.
Dear Mac & Grace,
I hope everything is better now that you are home. Mac, I hope you heal quickly now that you are home. Gracie try to take care of yourself while you take care of your love! I will try to call this weekend.
I love you both,
Lynn
Mac looking better than at a City Council meeting probably had everything to do with the meeting and nothing to do with health. >;-)
Mac
Glad to know your home, Hospital food speeds the desire to heal and go home. Take it slow, and know that we will all keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I look forward to you returning to the key board in a few weeks.
I just met Mac and Gracie in the Farmer's Market and chatted and exchanged pleasantries.
Knowing how tired people can be after open heart I did not try to visit Mac at home.
But I'm pleased to report (as a non medically trained observer) that Mac looks surprisingly good (well as good as Mac look, can't resist:).) In fact, he looks healthier than he did the last time I saw him, probably at a council meeting.
Keep up the recovery Mac but don't push too fast. Patience is required.
Work has been so slow in the construction fields lately that I took a part time job driving people to the airport. Decent job, get to talk about all kinds of things but had this lady and when I picked her up at the airport, I was supposed to take her to a friends home. As we got off the Eisenhower and into a subdivision, she out of the blue asks me if I know how she can get to 290, now I know I may be new to this job but I told her if she dropped about 50 pounds, she be at 290. I didn't get a tip on this trip???
Are you sure Mac, you oculd get a lot of stuff like this.
Now Mac, glad to see that you can still type but are you sure you know what you are asking for by offering spots for guests columnists?
1. Ouch! 2. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and thoughts. 3. Thanks to God for His strength, comfort and caring. Reverse order.
Posts will be rare from me whilst I get out of the woods and healthier.
The Dispatchers, Firefighters, Doctors, Nurses, Staff and Helicopter Pilots at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and at Sherman Hospital have my deepest gratitude because I so much love this life and they all worked to help me share in a little more time here.
Gracie is the best. I am forever grateful.
More to come. Guest columnists welcome and appreciated.
