PARDON OUR DUST !!!
The park district has begun work on MANDATORY modifications of many of its park sites to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Last year we needed to spend about $200,000 on a portion of over 700 items that MUST be modified to meet the letter of the law. This year, the projects will cost just over $315,000, and will focus on accessible paths/routes. A certain percentage of all facilities (not every facility) must be accessible by path. The law does not require concrete or asphalt, it can also be limestone screenings. SO, in some parks you will see paving work using concrete or asphalt, and in other locations, where a “more natural” appearance is preferable, you will see limestone screenings used. This last method also helps us keep the overall cost down.
Parks where the work will be taking place are:
a. Sports Complex
b. Golf Course Club House area
c. Sycamore Community Park Tennis court area
d. Emil Cassier Park
e. Lake Sycamore
f. Leon Larson Park and Trail
g. Brothers Park
h. Founders Park
i. Kiwanis East Park
j. Kiwanis Prairie Park
k. Parkside Preserve
Weather permitting, we should be done by the end of October.
Thanks for your patience.
