DeKalb County is the second largest hog producing county in Illinois.
Did you know that there are more hogs than people in DeKalb County? That’s right. There are about 235,000 hogs on farms throughout the local area. You don’t necessarily see the pigs as you drive by farms because they are house in climate-controlled buildings which keep them comforable. During Octover’s Pork Month we salue farmers for thei hard work in raising health pigs.

yum, bacon!
Good job Debbie and Alma!
So That’s why it stinks so bad
I did not know that. Thanks for the information.
But are these hogs being raised sustainably? I get that they are in climate controlled buildings, but is it humane that they never see sunlight until they are loaded into a truck? What is done with all their waste?
Do you mean “hog producing” instead of “hot producing”?
