Beginning September 19 through September 27, contractors will close a portion of East
Sunset Place in DeKalb, due to ongoing water main replacement construction. The closure begins at 304 East Sunset and continues east to South Fourth Street.
Contractors need to bore the new main beneath South Fourth Street (IL Route 23) in order to connect to an existing main on the east side of South Fourth Street. Boring requires significant workspace and extensive excavating. This portion will remain closed during the entire duration of work including evenings and weekends. The closure is a safety measure.
Motorist traveling north and south on South Fourth Street (IL Route 23) will experience
traffic controls and lane-drops primarily in the northbound lanes. Lincoln Elementary
School will remain accessible from East Sunset Place, but only from South Second
Street. The contractor acquired all required permits from the City and Illinois
Department of Transportation.
