The Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary, the Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital Auxiliary, and the KishHealth Foundation, part of Northwestern Medicine, offer several scholarships each year for DeKalb County residents pursuing healthcare studies. Scholarships are offered to students pursuing careers in healthcare studies, including nursing, radiology, pre-med, medical, and ancillary health services professions. Applications are now being accepted for the 2017-2018 school year. This year’s scholarships include:
Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary
The Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary offers the NM Kishwaukee Hospital Healthcare Scholarship to students accepted or currently enrolled in healthcare-related disciplines. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria to eligible: (1) legal address in DeKalb County, (2) immediate family member employed by NM Kishwaukee Hospital, or (3) be a volunteer in good standing through the NM Kishwaukee Hospital volunteer program with at least 20 hours of service. Application and instructions are available at www.kishhealth.org/scholarships, from the Volunteer Services office at NM Kishwaukee Hospital, by calling Deborah Nier at 815.756.1521, ext. 153372, or emailing dnier@kishhealth.org. Applications must be received in the Volunteer Services office by 4:30 pm, on May 5, 2017, or postmarked no later than that same date. Applicants will be notified of award by May 19, 2017.
Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital Auxiliary
The Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital Auxiliary offers scholarships to students who live in a community served by Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital, including residents of Earlville, Sandwich, Plano, Somonauk, Leland, Yorkville, Bristol, Sheridan, Serena, Newark, Millington, Millbrook, Big Rock, Hinckley and Waterman. The student must be a high school graduate and show proof of acceptance into a post-secondary health-related program.
Application forms, transcripts, and test scores must be completed and returned by June 1, 2017, for the subsequent fall semester. KishHealth Foundation, part of Northwestern Medicine
The KishHealth Foundation, part of Northwestern Medicine, maintains three scholarships for students pursuing degrees in medicine and diagnostic imaging and encourages donations to these funds.
Floann and Hallie Hamilton Diagnostic Imaging Scholarship
Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident and must have been accepted into a college diagnostic imaging curriculum. The Hamilton scholarship was established by Floann and Hallie Hamilton, long-time Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary volunteers.
James J. Feeney, MD, Memorial Scholarship
Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited medical school curriculum or have been accepted into a college level pre-medical curriculum as a full-time student. The Feeney scholarship was established by Dr. Feeney’s widow and daughters.
Physicians’ Medical Education Scholarship
Each applicant must be a DeKalb County resident currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited medical school curriculum. The Kishwaukee HospitalPhysicians’ Scholarship was created in 2004 by Photine Liakos, MD, to assist and encourage young people to join the medical and ancillary health services professions. The scholarship is funded by donations from local physicians.
