Preparing students well for success in their education and in their careers is a significant challenge in difficult times.
NIU’s Dennis Barsema will join leaders and policy makers from universities, community colleges and industry for “From Classroom to Career: Collaborating for Student Success,” a half-day symposium with students and parents.
Together, these 18 leaders will embark upon a dialogue and interactive workshop with students and parents designed to help them with educational and career success.
“From Classroom to Career,” hosted by the College of DuPage, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 30, in the Jack H. Turner Conference Center, located in Room 2000 of the Student Resource Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
During this free symposium, educators at all levels, counselors, business professionals, policy-makers, students, and parents will come together to address issues related to successful student transitions from secondary school to higher education to the professional world.
This exclusive event features a keynote address by former Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon on the mission-critical role of teachers in enabling an adroit workforce and an engaged and discerning citizenry. In addition, the program includes three expert panel discussions addressing front-line, higher education and workforce expectations for students, and current best practices for assisting students in making these important transitions.
The symposium will close with a facilitated workshop that will provide participants the opportunity to network, interact and exchange ideas; and then collaborate to create strategies to better equip students for the significant academic and career challenges awaiting them.
