This past week marked committee deadline in the Illinois House of Representatives. The deadline is the last day that bills can be moved from committee to the House floor for debate. Three bills that I drafted passed out of committee:
- HB 2984 – Passed through the House Elementary and Secondary Education committee. The
legislation aims to create the Tuition Voucher Program Task Force to formulate how Tuition vouchers can work in Illinois.
- HB 1628 – Passed through the House Criminal Law Committee. HB 1628 will help keep children safe
from child sex offenders. The legislation, if signed into law, would make it unlawful for a child sex offender to reside within 500 feet of a child counseling center.
- HB 2982 – Passed through the House Human Services Committee. This measure would create a
Regional Integrated Behavioral Health Network for the purpose of ensuring and improving access to appropriate mental health and substance abuse services throughout Illinois.

Thanks for being a contributor, Joe! I remember when you were an alderman! What did you think of the recent city council meeting when the Mayor referred to you as a snot-nosed kid?
