Multiple Tornados Touch Down in LaSalle County Last Night

One person is dead and 14 people are injured after four tornadoes were reported near Ottawa, Ill. last night, 2/28/17. Two people were taken to OSF Saint Francis in Peoria in critical condition. Strong to severe storms produced large hail, high winds and heavy damage across the area Tuesday.

Multiple tornadoes were reported on the ground beginning shortly after 4 p.m. all around Ottawa in La Salle County, Ill. Tornadoes were reported in Standard, Ottawa, Marseilles and Morris between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Six people were injured, including five residents and one staff member, after a tornado touched down at the La Salle County Nursing Home Tuesday evening, according to La Salle County Sheriff Tom Templeton.

Naplate Fire Chief John Nevins estimated that approximately 50 homes — about 1/4 of all Naplate structures — sustained some kind of damage, although no one was seriously injured in Naplate.

Gov. Bruce Rauner has activated the State Emergency Operations Center after the tornado touchdowns throughout Illinois. The video below was taken in Naplate shortly after the tornado went through the town.
