When Michael Ventrella joined the cast of NBC’s hit series “The Biggest Loser” for Season 9 (January, 2010), he weighed in at 526 lbs. Michael was the largest contestant in the series’ history. His teammate, mother Maria Ventrella, started the show with her son weighing 281 lbs.
Michael, was the overall winner of The Biggest Loser (NBC) Season 9, losing a total of 264 lbs! Although his mother was voted off the show after just 3 weeks, she continued her program losing herself 114 lbs.
Their story only has just begun.
Michael & Maria, both residents of Chicago west suburbs, have been on a mission since the finale of Season 9; “Live Well, Be Happy!” They have traveled the world inspiring people with their story and touching lives they never dreamed they could. They have teamed up with the Northern Illinois Food Back Pound for Pound Challenge. Their goal is simple; lose weight, get healthy, fight hunger.
Last Thursday night (April 21, 2011) Michael and Maria spoke to some residents of the Carol Stream area about their life story and how each one of us can make a difference. The event was sponsored by Olympia Chiropractic & Physical Therapy in conjunction with the Carol Stream Park District and Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Michael wowed the audience with his inspirational story and spent time taking questions from the audience. Mother Maria also answered questions from a working mother’s perspective on health & fitness.
Both spent time following the presentation taking pictures and signing autographs for those in attendance. “Michael and Maria are both wonderful people and their story is unbelievable,” one woman told Dr. Josh Younce. “The evening was a blessing.”
Olympia Chiropractic & Physical Therapy would like to thank Michael and Maria for sharing their story and delivering the message of health and fitness to our community.
We would also like to thank Meg Jourden of the Carol Stream Park District and Shannon Thompson of the Northern Illinois Food Bank for making this evening possible.
