Mental Health First Aid training equips the public to help persons with mental illness connect to care. The stigma surrounding mental illness often prevents people from seeking help or even acknowledging that they need help. And if they do want help, they don’t know where to turn. The Ben Gordon Center is offering a Mental Health First Aid Training on Thursday, February 27th, 2014 from 8am to 5pm.
You will learn about the prevalence of mental illnesses in the U.S. and the emotional and economic cost; the potential warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders; a 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care; and about resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.
CEUs credits are available: CNE, IAODAPCA, LCSW, LMFT, LCPC, CPDU. The cost is $35 per person for training. The class will be held at the DeKalb County Community Outreach Building, 2500 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, in the Five Seasons Room. To register or for more information, please contact Michelle at 815-757-3488 or bgcml@bengordoncenter.org.
