DeKalb County Master Gardeners will be sponsoring a community Open House this Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Hallgren Park Gardens. The Open House will include informal tours of the gardens and a discussion of future plans for the beds. At 11:00 AM Master Gardener Mike Van Buer will be presenting a talk about native plants. As part of the event, Master Gardeners will be offering plant divisions of many of the garden’s perennials to members of the public. Some of the perennials available include cone flowers, Shasta daisies, spiderwort, campanula, yarrow, blackberry lilies forsythia and some other natives.
The gardens consist of 7 perennial beds, a rose berm and an evergreen berm, and are located within the overall Hallgren Park. DeKalb County Master Gardeners have been working with the gardens in cooperation with the DeKalb Park District since 2003.
The following Saturday, October 10, will be the rain date for the event. Please contact the University of Illinois Extension office at 815-758-194 with any questions regarding this event.
