The 2013 winner of the Kishwaukee Community Hospital Auxiliary’s Connie Bressler Spirit Award is Marion Baars, a true ambassador for the hospital and its entire staff. Marion, a retired DeKalb School District teacher, has been a volunteer at Kish Hospital for twenty years. She personifies vitality and kindness and is always upbeat with a positive outlook on everything in life. She can be seen pushing wheelchairs that are twice as big as she is and there is no slowing her down! She is a true “Energizer bunny.” An asset to the department, she never turns the Volunteer Services staff down when asked to stay longer or fill in an extra shift.
The annual Connie Bressler Spirit Award is awarded at the Volunteer Week Dinner in April. Because of her health challenges, volunteering was not easy for Connie. Always positive, she put as much effort and kindness into her volunteer work as she ever did in her paid employment. She made a difference here. After she passed away in 2010, the Volunteer Services Department staff created the Connie Bressler Spirit Award to honor her memory.
The first recipient was Eileen Dettman in 2011. With the presentation of this annual award, the Volunteer Services Department will recognize a volunteer who is carrying on Connie’s spirit at Kish Hospital.
