To the Editor:
I, Jim Mason of Mason Properties, am publicly announcing that I am volunteering my services as city manager for at least a year to the city of DeKalb. Expenses incurred will be worked out with the city of DeKalb.
I am asking that people from the community please join me at the next City Council meeting at 6 p.m. April 23 to publicly speak in front of the City Council on the topic.
Please support me and Mason Properties’ efficiencies for the city of DeKalb.
I am looking to make an impression and am asking for at least 500 participants. Public speakers are called to the podium at the beginning of the meetings.
If you are unable to be present at the meeting but have an opinion on this topic, please communicate with your alderpeople and/or the mayor. This will be the solution to all the present confusion in DeKalb.
Meetings are held in the council chambers on the second floor at 200 S. Fourth St.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

I think not! Talk about a conflict of interest!

Heâs an idiot.

Jim mason needs to volunteer his services to fix his run down apartments. Absolutely horrendous living conditions. Slum lords

Whatâs the issue with it?

Go rent an apartment in St Albans for two months and your questions will be answered

Sarah Marzano i donât need to rent an apartment Iâm good â

I’d pay my pet dog to do it before I trusted Jim Mason to do it for free

I support Jim. Heâs a great guy, successful investor and businessman. To all you who think itâs funny, get to know him on a personal level and youâll know this, if you base it on a business perspective; it isnât fair treatment to him.

It isn’t fair to judge him on his own actions??

You can learn a lot about a person based on what they drive. This is all I need to know about Jim Mason…unfortunately, I know more about him than just the inappropriate nonsense he displays on the back of his ride.

I donât believe this is his vehicle

No. Based on the way I know he treats minorities and personal experiences people I know have had with him…no.

Didn’t trump say he was going to donate his salary also?

I am a strong “yes” for Jim Mason to become city manager for year, at zero cost, zero pension.
We need to recoup our costs from the payout of the previous city manager.
Jim has first-hand experience on how this city has been run from a management perspective.
I would take the offer.

Based solely on the performance of the last several NIU Public Administration-trained city managers I think Jim Mason should move to the top of the eligibility list.

Are you trolling Mac McIntyre? 🙂 Whoever they decide on there should be no golden parachute written into the contract.

Mark Pietrowski Jr. No trolling. My remarks are evidence-based driven on the results produced.

You can be critical and believe that the trained city managers DeKalb has had have been poor performers but there are cities with good performing city managers that are trained (Brian Gregory) to name one close by that has an NIU education. The poor performances of some should also not then default the position to a polarizing figure like Jim Mason. He can apply for the position like anyone else but I could do without the theatre he is asking for in his letter.

tread softly Mr. McIntyre.Your at risk of ruffling the feathers of DeKalb”s Deep State Wannabes

I was talking about DeKalb and I’ll stand by my assessment albeit I must admit the city managers have certainly been an improvement over the selection(s) of #428 school superintendents. At least going back to Jack Deere…

Mark Pietrowski Jr. Brian is doing a great job for Sycamore but we must not forget that another NIU graduate, Bill Nicklas, did a very nice job in getting Sycamore to the position they were in when Brian took over for Bill.
I can only wonder what DeKalb would be like today if Bill would have been DeKalb’s city manager a few more years. The same for if Jim Connors would have stayed a few more years but history has it here in DeKalb that our city hall cannot keep a good thing going.

Ivan Krpan, yes Sycamore had a great transition plan having Brian learn from Bill. It would be very interesting to see what would have been if Bill stayed on as city manager in DeKalb.

Brian gives lots of credit to Bill for the way he left things at the city and for his mentorship.

Mark Pietrowski Jr. Is there a golden parachute for the county Adm?

Mark Charvat. No there is not. At will employee.

Mark Pietrowski Jr. good to hear. Though the county made a serious mistake increasing the position salary upon the departure of Ray Bochman. The tendency to government to throw more money into the salary pot to hire replacements is sickening! County is very guilty of this. The City will do the same. This an opportunity for the city to offer less and get more. The county blew it in that respect.

Mark Charvat I was not on the board at that time but I believe the new person was started at a lower salary than Bockman initially. I also think when possibly new hires should be hired at a lower rate than the outgoing individual, depending on experience, etc…

George Stratton You’re.

Mark Pietrowski Jr. And an ethics clause!

Ivan Krpan Jim Connors was a good City Manager who knew how to run a City and how to protect its interests. Mark Stevens was also a good manager…young…he was a genius at solving problems. We have had many good people working at City Hall….the problems seem to have spun out of control in the past few years. Part of it is due to the lack of involvement by the public and, unfortunately, some of the elected officials who didn’t keep a very close watch and didn’t do their homework.

Literally anyone else

Ryan

Unfortunately people donât care about this enough for it to factor in whether they support someone or not. Because…they donât have to. ð

Anybody! This jerk is a straight up racist. Don’t take my word for it, listen to his radio show? Puh-leeeese!

I lived in Dekalb for one year and I spent that year in a Mason Property apartment. Based upon that experience alone, I would say truly anyone but him. I would agree itâs a conflict of interest.

Lmao!!

Please God no

Why do we need a city manager we have a mayor & city council. NO MORE $$ on âstudiesâ use your heads city government

Agree!

DeKalb has a council-manager form of government. Council’s job is to legislate and set policy, while the manager’s job is to run the day-to-day operations. We’d need to change our form of government for that to happen. I’m not against it but think it would be tough to convince people.

I will apply. Straighten out the problem areas real fast.. strict guidelines for landlords. Bring back honesty and decency to dekalb city gov. Ppl deserve to live in safe areas,, would really piss off the wrong ppl. Lol

Nope youâd become corrupt

Chris Walters nope Have too much pride. Ppl tell me im too honest n blunt. Saddened to see how the corrupt city gov has ruined dek over last 40 yrs

I nominate Bessi Chronopoulous or lynn frantz

I like Lynn Frantz

I don’t know Lynn Frantz, but if she is honest and hardworking…it’s a good move.

NO. Cant even keep his properties up. He hires incompetent ppl who are rude, inexperience n disrespectful , nothing getâs repaired. His greed and inexperience ,would hurt dek

Maybe Jim forgot that it is April 14th and not April 1st.

Dear lord. Anyone with a pulse -other than him.

ANYONE, but Jim Mason.

This seems like a conflict of interest.

ANYBODY ðð

I don’t know who other than Jim Mason. Perhaps someone qualified?

As someone who lived in one of his apartments for a couple years, no thanks.
