Join Amy Doll, DeKalb Park District Executive Director along with Sam DeDina and Paul Meuer of ENCAP Inc. to learn about their restoration and maintenance plan that guides sustainable short- and long-term care of the DeKalb Nature Trail at this month’s Green Drinks event. This extraordinary effort balances environmental responsibility, high use, aesthetics and community input with the requirements of an easement by ComEd.
The DeKalb Nature Trail is a 1.6-mile “Rails to Trails” corridor that connects Sycamore Road and 1st Street in DeKalb. It is also part of the DeKalb County Greenways and Trails Coalition plan and has been identified as having the highest number of daily users of any trail in the city. After several years of clearcutting by ComEd, who holds an easement for maintaining vegetation clearance of their power lines that run above, the DeKalb Park District and ENCAP Inc are working together to develop a sustainable maintenance plan for this beloved trail.
Join in for February’s Green Drinks event with DeKalb Park District and ENCAP Inc. this Wednesday, February 14 from 7 PM – 9 PM at Fatty’s Pub and Grille, 1312 W Lincoln Hwy, in DeKalb.
