Learn about Tree Tapping to collect cool and sweet, fresh filtered sap from our old maple trees! The DeKalb County Community Gardens will hold their annual Maple Tree Tapping at the historic Gurler House twice this month. They will still run their previously scheduled maple tapping event on Sunday the 13th, but due to the unexpectedly early sap season they are adding another event for this Sunday March 6th, from 1-3pm.
Enjoy tea made with DCCG herbs and maple sap from the Gurler House, and bring a maple-flavored or other treat to share if you are willing and able! Participants will learn identification of different kinds of maple, how to tap the trees, a bit about the syruping process and drinking the sap as a spring tonic.
Bring the family out for this fun and educational event! Both of the Maple Tree Tappings will be at the Gurler House, 205 Pine Street, in DeKalb.
