The City of DeKalb’s annual leaf collection program begins on October 16, 2017.
Residents should rake leaves into a narrow row parallel to the backside of the curb.
Leaf piles must be free of sticks, rocks, or other debris. Crews will begin in the south half of DeKalb and work north to Lincoln Highway to the northern city limits. Schedule and locations change to accommodate weather conditions. Public Works ceases leaf collection operations in the event of snow.
The City requests residents do not rake leaves into the street. The leaves quickly accumulate and may result in potential street flooding. Public Works recommends off-
street parking throughout the season to ensure leaf pick up in front of your home.
Waste Management will also pick up your leaves, curbside, on your regularly scheduled
garbage day. However, leaves must be placed in biodegradable yard-waste bags or
open garbage cans. Leaves placed in plastic bags will not be collected.
For your convenience, landscape waste dumpsters will remain in place through
November 30. Plastic bags are strictly prohibited from being placed in the dumpster.
Landscape waste dumpsters are located at the following locations:
- Southeast corner of North 7th Street and Oak Street.
- Fire Station #2 – 1154 South 7th Street.
- City Garden Plots – 950 West Dresser Road.
There will be no leaf collection on the following days:
- Friday, November 10th Veterans Day
- Thursday, November 23th Thanksgiving
- Friday, November 24th
