KishHealth System Hospice will be offering a volunteer orientation and training class at the KishHealth System Hospice office, 2727 Sycamore Rd, suite 1B, DeKalb, starting Sept. 15. The class is open to all individuals interested in becoming Hospice Direct Care Volunteers and to those who simply want to learn more about Hospice care. Class members will receive guidance and support while exploring issues involved in end-of-life care.
The goal of Hospice is to help each person enjoy the best quality of life possible in a difficult time. The class will provide an overview of Hospice, as well as explore how to respond to the social, emotional and spiritual needs of the terminally ill person and his or her family. Direct Care Volunteers are an integral part of our interdisciplinary team. Important attributes of Direct Care Volunteers are compassion, flexibility, the ability to listen, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
The training class will be held on Thursdays, from 6 pm to 9 pm, beginning Sept. 15 through Oct. 20. There is a registration fee of $20 to help cover the cost of materials. Scholarships are available. Advance registration by Friday, Sept. 9 is necessary. Please call Sue A. Goudy, Volunteer/Transitions Program coordinator, at 815.756.3000, for more information and to register.
