At Kishwaukee College, students in the Kishwaukee Education Consortium Diesel Power Tech (DPT) I and Diesel II classes and Automotive Technology (AMT) classes as well as several Kishwaukee College DPT and AMT students got a sneak peek at the newest truck by Nissan: 2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4×4 with all-new Cummins V8 turbo diesel engine (pre-production model). The new Titan XD represents a “new class” of pickup, offering a combination of ½ ton and ¾ ton truck traits that are ideal for a customer. The newest addition to the Nissan line-up was on campus on November 13 and will be on sale at Nissan dealerships in late 2015.
The Nissan was brought to campus by Greg Ebbs, Marketing and Contest & Incentives Manager for the Midwest Region of Nissan North America. Nissan has been supportive of the Auto programs at Kishwaukee for over ten years. AMT instructor Tim Banasiak met Ebbs earlier this year and the relationship between the Nissan Midwest Region and Tim has grown. Ebbs noted that Nissan is proud to provide support to vocational institutions near Nissan’s Regional offices to educate students on Nissan products, helping provide the training necessary for their career after graduation. Ebbs contacted Banasiak earlier this week asking if the students would like to see the pre-production Titan XD up-close.
The 2016 Titan XD has an all-new Cummins 5.0 liter V8 turbo diesel engine rated at 310 horse power and 555 foot-pounds of torque. The new design is bold, capable and confident with plenty of options available: heavy-duty 6-speed AISIN automatic transmission, around view monitor (cameras around the entire vehicle), front and rear sonar, the ability to check trailer lights with the key-fob, integrated trailer brake controller, integrated gooseneck trailer hitch and many other perks. The Titan XD was recently voted “Truck of Texas,” “Best Powertrain,” “Off-Road Pickup Truck of Texas,” and “Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas” at this year’s Texas Truck Rodeo by the Texas Auto Writers Association–quite a list of honors in a state that boasts one of the highest number of trucks per capita. The students were, to say the least, impressed. Mitchell Lenox, Rochelle, said, “It is pretty cool, very futuristic looking. I like that we get to see what is coming out early. I am pretty jealous–this truck is something I would want.” Morris Jones, DeKalb, agreed, “It is cool to see it early! I really like it. It is really comfortable on the inside, too.” Adrian Roselli, DeKalb, focused on the production itself as a point of interest. “I like how it all came together,” he said. “You usually don’t see Cummins and Nissan together.” Andrew Bonilla, Kirkland, added, “This has a lot of technology. There is, basically, a computer in the center console with a navigation system, blue-tooth and even a push start. The whole vehicle is really solid.”
