The Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees has announced that it has begun the search process for the position of President of the College. The Board has selected the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to assist with the presidential search process.
The College’s current President, Dr. Tom Choice, announced his retirement in June, effective on December 31, 2015. Dr. Choice is the fourth President of Kishwaukee College since opening its doors in 1968. Preceding Dr. Choice were Dr. Lamar Fly, Dr. Norman Jenkins, and Dr. David Louis.
The ACCT has conducted over 400 community college searches and states that their mission is to strengthen community college governance through education, advocacy, and service. The search process will include the establishment of a College Search Committee that will include members of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, administrators, a current student, and community leaders.
The Board of Trustees’ first charge is to create a “Presidential Profile” that includes the qualities, skills and characteristics desired in the new President. The Board is asking for community input in creating the Presidential Profile as well as identifying what community members see as the opportunities and challenges that the new President will encounter as he or she assumes leadership of Kishwaukee College.
To gather community input, the Board is hosting two Presidential Search Public Forums on Wednesday, August 19: one session will be from 7:30 – 8:45 a.m. and a second session will be from 4:45 – 6:15 p.m. Both forums will meet in A1225 in the Kishwaukee College Conference Center. Participants should park in Lot A (south lot) and use Door #16.
Members of the community who are unable to attend the forums are asked to email representatives from ACCT directly by August 20, to share their thoughts regarding information they would like to see included in the Presidential Profile. ACCT representatives and their email addresses are: Patricia Keir, Ed.D. at pkeir563@msn.com and Julie Golder, J.D. at jgolder@acct.org . The Board of Trustees will review and approve the Presidential Profile at a Special Board meeting on August 20.
The progress of the Presidential Search will be available on the College’s website at www.kishwaukeecollege.edu/presidential_search/ .
