LISTING #1
SALES SPECIALIST—Life Lines Producer
JOB DESCRIPTION
The job of the Life Lines producer is to forge relationships with potential customers as well as centers of influence through which Personal or Commercial Life Insurance policies can be quoted and sold. Ideal candidates must be goal oriented, work well independently, be willing to learn about American Family’s life insurance products and underwriting guidelines and be able to stay motivated despite rejection. Well-qualified candidates will have a background in commission-based sales, preferably insurance sales or sales of an “intangible” product.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
• Producer must act ethically and represent American Family Insurance and the Kimberly Barrios Agency in a positive manner at all times—on the job and off. Because the ultimate goal is for people to do business with you based on who you are, your reputation is very important. Indiscretions of a personal of professional nature may have an impact on your employment if these could jeopardize the public opinion of American Family Insurance or the Kimberly Barrios Agency.
• The producer will assist the Agent and Agency staff through an on-going relationship with the customer.
• Producer will have knowledge of underwriting guidelines and will accurately quote and sell life insurance policies, while soliciting other lines of business.
• Producer will help the customer throughout the entire underwriting process.
• Producer will adhere to office policy relating to all sales and servicing practices.
COMPENSATION
The Sales Specialist compensation schedule is designed to pay a producer in such a way that he/she is compensated directly for his/her performance—in this case, primarily the amount of new business premium successfully generated. The pay for performance model is a results-based-model.
While a strong work ethic is highly valued at the Kimberly Barrios Agency, the Sales Specialist must ultimately be able to effectively sell a large volume of insurance premium to achieve the level of compensation that most people find desirable. Successful Sales Specialists will earn a very comfortable salary over time and will position themselves in such a way that they may be considered for Agency opportunities at American Family Insurance or Other Companies.
Successful Sales Specialist can expect to earn higher percentages of new business commission and/or bonuses over time, as well as the possibility of accumulating residual commissions.
It is the intention of the Kimberly Barrios Agency to pay the Sales Specialist according to the direct value they provide to the business. If it is discovered the current rate of compensation is not sufficiently compensating the Sales Specialist, the pay schedule will be adjusted.
FOUR WAYS TO EARN
-Travel & Marketing Allowance, Commissions, Quarterly Bonus Pay & Other Lines of Business Payments.
• Travel & Marketing Allowance $300/mo.
A Travel & Marketing allowance will be paid a month in advance to be used as an investment tool to generate more income. This money must be spent on gas, mileage, car maintenance, marketing expenses, client lunches, business cards, advertising, etc. Producer must provide monthly receipts, mileage and appointment logs as well as invoices to show how this money is being used. If the use of these funds does not seem to bring a return on the investment, the agents may require changes in how these funds are being allocated.
Minimum Expectations in order to qualify to Stipend:
Producer must generate a minimum of $2,500 of annual Premium volume per month to maintain his/her allowance. This requirement will begin at the end of the third month and will be evaluated monthly after that. If the minimum requirements are not met, the agent will pull the allowance and offer ONLY commission-based pay to the producer. Should the producer improve his/her sales numbers, the allowance may be reinstated.
• Commissions:
Producer will earn commissions based on premium volume of policies issued during an isolated month.
Tier 1 10% Producer sells LESS than their $$2,500 minimum premium
Tier 2 40% Producer sells $2500-$3999 premium volume
Tier 3 60% Producer sells $4000-$5999 premium volume
Tier 4 80%* Producer sells $8000-$9999 premium volume
Tier 5 90%* Producer sells $10,000 or more premium volume
Commission Payment Schedule:
Producer will receive his/her percentage of the new business commission during the pay period after the month in which the policy is issued. Pay day will always be the 5th business day of the month. For example:
If the producer sells a policy on May 1, the policies issues on May 10, She/he will be paid for the sale on the 5th business day in June.
If the producer sells a policy on May 20, the policy issues June 1, the producer will be paid on the 5th business day of July.
*Exception:
For months in which premium volume is at least $8,000, commissions will be paid in two installments. The first installment will be paid on the 5th business day following the month of issuance (as explained above). The second installment will be paid on 5th business day of the month, 6 months after the month in which the first installment is paid.
Cancelled policies:
Producer will be “charged-back” a prorated percentage of commissions paid for any policy which cancels in the new business term. The cancelled policy will have no impact on tier placement for the current month.
• Quarterly Bonus Payments:
Performance will be reviewed quarterly once Company reports become available to the agent. At the end of a quarter, the producer will receive a % of the Agent’s payable Bonus for the Life lines category. The percentage will be given based on the average tier placement during that quarter*.
Example: The agent qualifies for $1000 payable bonus during Q1. The producer places in tier 2 (Month 1), tier 2 (Month 2), tier 3 (Month 3); the producer has an overall average of 2.33 as their tier score. They will receive 46% of the quarterly agent bonus for that line of business. In this case, the producer will get a quarterly bonus of $460.
*Exception:
When more than one Sales Specialist shares the same category, the percentage of the bonus payable to the Sales Specialist will be paid relative to the performance of other Sales Specialists in that same category. Collectively, the Sales Specialists, may not earn more than 100% of the Agent’s payable quarterly bonus for that lines of business.
• Other Lines of Business Payments
It is expected that the Sales Specialist will attempt to sell all lines of insurance for which he/she has authority in the course of prospecting commercial/farm business, or to family, friends or colleagues. When he/she effectively solicits other lines of insurance and these policies are sold by another member of the agency, the Sales Specialist will receive “Other Lines of Business” Payments. These payments will be paid on a “straight” per policy compensation schedule, rather than a commission schedule. All personal lines policies will be paid at a rate of $5 per policy and all commercial or farm/ranch policies will be paid at a rate of $25 per policy. In order to be eligible for compensation, policies issued must qualify for “app count” and must stay in-force for the entire new business term.
Cancelled policies:
Sales Specialist will be “charged-back” the full amount of the “Other Lines of Business” when a policy that was paid out for cancels in the new business term.
PAYMENT ELIGIBILITY
Commissions will be paid once they are earned, however, any bonuses or “Other Lines of Business” compensation will only be paid so long as the Sales Specialist remains active in his/her role at the Kimberly Barrios Agency; meeting minimum monthly sales expectations and actively soliciting and selling insurance policies on behalf of the American Family Insurance. In addition, since the Travel and Marketing allowance is paid as an advance for a complete months’ worth of prospecting and selling, a Sales Specialists who resigns part-way through the month without meeting minimum sales expectations will need to return the entire allowance for that month. The Sales Specialist should expect to see this adjustment on a subsequent paycheck. If no compensation is owed (or if compensation is not enough to cover the stipend), the Sales Specialist will owe the Agent for the repayment of the Stipend and will have no more than 30 days from the day the stipend was issued to make this repayment.
NON-PIRACY & NON-COMPETE AGREEMENTS
The Sales Specialist agrees that he/she will NOT solicit any active or inactive customers of the Kimberly Barrios Agency or any active prospects (quoted, not sold & not yet quoted) for at least 2 years after the last date of his/her affiliation with the Kimberly Barrios Agency.
