Multi-platinum RED BOW recording artist Joe Nichols is bringing his “Never Gets Old” tour to the Egyptian Theatre in Downtown DeKalb Friday, September 15. Presented by the Egyptian Theatre, 102.3 The Coyote, and ProSound Productions.
Nichols is one of country music’s most praised traditional country artists. His album “Crickets” debuted in the Top 3 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and spawned the two multiweek #1, RIAA gold-certified hits “Yeah” and “Sunny and 75.”
Nichols has six #1 hits and eight Top 10 singles to his credit, including chart-toppers like “Brokenheartsville,” “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” and “Gimmie That Girl,” and Top 10 smashes like “The Impossible,” “If Nobody Believed In You,” “What’s A Guy Gotta Do,” “Size Matters,” “Yeah,” and “I’ll Wait For You.”
This 4 time Grammy nominee is the winner of the Academy of Country Music’s “Top New Male Vocalist” award, the CMT “Breakthrough Video of the Year” award and the prestigious “Horizon Award” from the Country Music Association. Nichols is currently touring the U.S. performing his own headlining dates with his newest album “Never Gets Old” that was just released in July 2017.
Nichols said his goal for his most recent album was to sing with the most feeling possible and let whatever came out of his soul land on the record, Nichols ended up with 12 tracks that bound between spirit and sentiment, courage and cleverness, romance and rowdy fun, all wrapped in the throwback style he’s spent a lifetime pursuing.
Lead single and title track “Never Gets Old” points the way. Written by Connie Harrington and Steve Moakler, Nichols says it reminds him of the mid-’80s country era, a song that “wasn’t necessarily deep, but it was meaningful.”
Opening forJoe Nichols September 15 is local favorite Stroker Red. They are an outlaw country band based in DeKalb. Started in 2009 by lead singers/guitarists Grant “Stroker” Stoker and Chad “Red” Carlson, Stroker Red endeavors to pay tribute to the honest, no-frills roots of country. They embrace their idols in classic and outlaw country and the surge of roots country out of Texas/Oklahoma. They pull from their influences to enthusiastically cover killer country and hammer out their own material, all with a raw (but tight) edge.
