Jessica Zenzen, Singer, Songwriter. Performer, Rising Star from DeKalb, Illinois. The following is slightly rewritten from her Facebook page.
It all started on November 20, 1989 for her in DeKalb, Illinois, hometown of the NIU Huskies. Living with her mother, Donna, her brother Zachary, and her father, Richard, she grew up singing along with Disney movies on TV. Now she’s on stage letting everyone see what she can do.
Jessica was a choir girl all the way up until she graduated in 2007. She was actually an honorary member of her high school choir since she was in the 4th grade. Her last push was probably her parents’ divorce. It made her realize that she had to go after what she wanted or it would never happen. So in February of 2008 Jessica moved out to Las Vegas to fulfill her dreams of someday becoming a star. She had to graduate her high school career a year early to do so. No Prom for her.
Jessica has starred in many plays, musicals, performing arts groups such as MUAH and Dee’s Dreamers, paid and unpaid. She has sang in numerous places from giant Cathedrals in Canada to Disney Land, from karaoke contests in Kirkland, IL to being an opening act for well known rapper TWISTA. She was on American Idol four times, and says it was a great learning experience for her. The first performance of her own music was at the Box Office in Las Vegas, Nevada. She enjoys writing and singing just the same… it’s whatever will give her that thrill of people being able to relate to her and her music.
Jessica says, “I don’t want people to look at me as something they could never be. If I make it I want them to be able to look up to me when they are having rough times and that’s the best feeling of all. I sing a wide variety of music. My focus now is R & B / Hip-Hop. I also sing contemporary, classical, opera, pop, jazz and acoustic. I do this because it was what I was born to do. Trying to pursue the one thing that would truly make me happy and complete… my name in Lights. Thank you for all your support and Love.”
Jessica has made the cover of Syck Magazine’s September issue (see image) and has a world release of her new single coming out on August 24th, 2013. Listen to the sneak peak of her new single below. We think THIS girl is going places. Another hometown girl makes good. Pretty kewl 🙂

Good luck to you as you pursue your singing career. My husband and I were students at NIU in the 70’s, and lived in Stevenson North. My husband Bob, (Jake), lived on the 9th floor. There was a guy on the floor by the name of Dickie Zenzen…could that be your dad?? We are up in DeKalb frequently because our older son graduated from NIU, and stayed up there and is now a DeKalb alderman, and made an unsuccessful run for Mayor this past April.
