Yes, it is that time! It is hard to believe Election 2012 has already begun in the DeKalb County Clerk’s office. Beginning September 6, 2011 candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions for office. Filing of Nomination Petitions is from November 28th – December 5th.
County offices up for election this round are the State’s Attorney, Treasurer and Collector, Circuit Clerk, Coroner, County Board Members, Precinct Committeeman and Judicial offices. All 24 County Board Members are elected every 10 years after the census. 2012 is the first Election after the census, thus all County Board Members are up for Election. Once their term begins, the Clerk, by game of chance, determines which of the two members per district will have a two year term, the other will have a four year term.
The Election’s Department will release the petition packets, and other paperwork online. Check out the DeKalb County Clerk’s newly designed Election Central at www.dekalbclerk.com and then click “Elections.”
