This is Independence Day Weekend in the U.S.A. and DeKalb County does it up right! With the Holiday actually being on Tuesday this year, many residents have a four day weekend coming up and boy is there things to do around here! Below are the local celebrations you won’t want to miss!
Kirkland 4th of July Celebration
Don’t miss Kirkland’s 69th Annual 4th of July Celebration! Kirkland 4th of July Celebration goes from Saturday, July 1st through Tuesday, July 4th. There will be many activities all weekend long, including live music, a beer tent, bingo, a queen contest, parade, car show, tractor show, bags tournament, a ventriloquist, a magician, FIREWORKS and much more!
Festival is located at Franklin Township Park – 200 Park St., Kirkland, IL 60146 – 1 block south of Rt. 72 between S. Second and S. Third Sts. Their ‘Biggest Fireworks in Northern Illinois’ go off on Tuesday evening. For a full schedule of events click here or visit kirklandlions.org .
Sandwich, Il. Freedom Days
Sandwich always host their Freedom Days on the Fourth of July Weekend, Saturday, July 1st and Sunday, July 2nd this year. On Saturday their Freedom Days Parade starts at 10:00AM sharp! The Sandwich Fire Department will host water fights on Saturday evening at the fire station on Railroad street. The Sandwich Fire Department’s First Annual Blaze in the City Car & Bike Show will also be held in downtown Sandwich on Saturday from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
On Sunday, the 34th annual Freedom Run kicks off at Knights Park. 1-Mile starts at 8:00AM
and the 5K starts at 8:30AM. Registration Form here. The Fireworks Display at the Sandwich Fairground start at dark Sunday. The main gate opens at 5:00PM for cars and walkers. You may walk in at the Lisbon gate, no cars entering. Click here for more information.
Shabbona Hometown 4th of July Festival
Shabbona’s annual 4th of July Celebration is full of fun events all day on Tuesday, July 4th. The day begins with Shabbona Fire Department’s All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast and then the Pokanoka’s Run & Walk. Shabbona’s Hometown Festival – Petting Zoo, Rides, Games, Inflatables, and FUN for all ages runs from 12:30 until 4:45PM. Shabbona’s Fireworks will be on Tuesday at the beautiful Shabbona Lake State Park. A donation of $10 per car is appreciated at the entrance to the Lake. More specifics for the day can be found here.
DeKalb’s 4th of July Celebration
Begin your 4th of July celebration with family and friends at the Independence Day 5K Run/Walk starting at 8:00AM at Hopkins Park. Participants are encouraged to dress with American spirit (red,white,blue). Registration Info here.
Bring chairs, blankets, games, and appetites for an afternoon and evening with family and friends at Hopkins Park beginning at 2:00PM. Food booths from many favorite local caterers, grills, and vendors will be on site in the early afternoon hours. The DeKalb Municipal Band will perform in the bandshell before and during the fireworks. Fireworks at dusk Tuesday are co-sponsored by the DeKalb Park District and City of DeKalb.
Sycamore Speedway
The Sycamore Speedway is hosting a very special event this coming Saturday, July 1st including Racing plus a LARGE Firework display! The evening will feature Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets and Dirt Late Models on the big track before the large Firework display over the Speedway.
