Inboden’s Meat Market is proud to announce that one of their cashiers has been selected as one of the presenters at TEDTALK 2016 at NIU, April 23rd.
Stephen T. Samuels I was born on the Westside of Chicago and grew up in the Austin and Oak Park area. He attended Oak Park River High School for two years before transferring to DeKalb High School in DeKalb, with the intent of attending Northern Illinois University. Stephen went on to graduate from NIU with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Black Studies.
A highly involved student, who before becoming an Advisor to the Black Student Union, Black Male Initiative, and African Student Alliance as a graduate student, was involved in all of these organizations plus Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and many others. Stephen also obtained a Master of Science in Higher Education and is currently a Black Studies Instructor and a Research Assistant for the Association of Black Cultural Centers.
In August 2016, Stephen will be beginning a new journey as a Law Student. Stephen has spoken across America including The Ohio State University, Lake Forest College, and University of California, Berkeley to name a few. He emphasizes the importance of knowing history in efforts to foster a better standing of race, politics, and education.
Being the go-getter he is, Stephen has just started a GoFundMe page to help pay for his Law School degree. He tells us that he has funds that will be available via the law school for his second and third year, but most law school scholarships do not apply to first year students, hence the fundraising for his first year at NIU’s Law School.
