Child safety seats can be lifesavers for your car’s smallest passengers.
However, child safety seats are only effective if they’re installed correctly. One way to help ensure they are is by using a car’s LATCH, which stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children. This installation hardware can make it much easier for someone to secure a child safety seat into a car.
In 2015, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) launched its ratings of child seat installation hardware. Out of 102 vehicles rated at that time, the majority were poor or marginal.
It’s a different story today: Out of the 170 current models evaluated in 2016, most are good or acceptable.
