Joseph Newby graduated from Sycamore High School in 1996. Newby is one of many heroes that have made the great sacrifice of serving our country. Joseph Newby served in the marines for 4 years.
In one of his most memorable experiences, after the bombing of the United States embassy in Tanzania, Joseph Newby, a corporal in the United States Marine Corps was deployed to the bombed embassy. There could be no better display of patriotism and heroism coming from DeKalb than a young soldier moving forward into such a new face of combat, terrorism. Newby who served as infantry in the Marine Corps from November 1996 – November 2000, and was stationed in Italy and Virginia. The Marine Corp provided him the opportunity to travel through Europe and other parts of the world.
